Remove Facebook Highlights

UPDATE: If you read through the comments below you’ll see a explaination of the bugs and a possible fix. The script listed below does indeed work better and I’ve updated the link in this post to reflect that.

If you hate the new Facebook Highlight section like me, then you might enjoy this easy fix to remove it. It requires the Firefox browser, but if you aren’t using it by now, then you probably like the Highlight section anyway.

  1. Download Firefox if you haven’t already.
  2. Install Greasemonkey Add-On if you don’t have it. Make sure to enable it from Tools > Options.
  3. Install this Greasemonkey Script: Remove Highlights (about half way down under Install Options it says “Load as user script.”
  4. Voila! It’s gone.

It looks like this.

Syncing Gmail Contacts with Blackberry Part two

Okay, I realized I never followed up on my Gmail contacts syncing with Blackberry issue from the other day.

I’m happy to tell you that it’s finally working. I didn’t do anything more special really after what I had already done.

I think the key things here are to remember the following:

  1. Back up your Blackberry contacts.
  2. Save them to your computer and import them into Gmail contacts via .csv file.
  3. Organize your Gmail contacts and clean up what is in the “My Contacts” section. Only keep things in there that you would want in your phone
  4. IMPORTANT: This is the only way I could get it to work without dozens of duplicates. DELETE your Blackberry address book through the Desktop Manager. Just do it. Make sure to see #1.
  5. Now Sync. I’m happy to report it syncs both ways.
  6. Sync again just to make sure it working correctly.

Things to keep in mind:

  1. I don’t think all bugs have been worked out. My first sync worked, and when it synced again, it put stuff in my phone that wasn’t even in My Contacts. However, after I cleaned it up again, it’s been fine since then.
  2. If you have more than one mobile number listed in Gmail Contacts, Blackberry won’t recognize it and will essentially just skip it. If you have an additional Mobile number, put it in as Other or whatever you can remember that it’s listed as.
