Remove Facebook Highlights

UPDATE: If you read through the comments below you’ll see a explaination of the bugs and a possible fix. The script listed below does indeed work better and I’ve updated the link in this post to reflect that.

If you hate the new Facebook Highlight section like me, then you might enjoy this easy fix to remove it. It requires the Firefox browser, but if you aren’t using it by now, then you probably like the Highlight section anyway.

  1. Download Firefox if you haven’t already.
  2. Install Greasemonkey Add-On if you don’t have it. Make sure to enable it from Tools > Options.
  3. Install this Greasemonkey Script: Remove Highlights (about half way down under Install Options it says “Load as user script.”
  4. Voila! It’s gone.

It looks like this.

So this script apparently is a little buggy. It works most of the time for me, removing the highlights section, but other times, they are there. Still, it's better than them always being there.

But just keep that in mind.

Melissa, the bug you're getting is probably because of the "People You Might Know" section, which isn't always there. The Stylish style I wrote was experiencing a similar bug, where if the friend suggestions were there, highlights would be as well. They would only be hidden is there were no friend suggestions. As far as I know there's no way (with Stylish) to remove the Highlights title without causing some other bugs. If you want a relatively solid solution, you can see my Stylish style at http://userstyles.org/styles/15902 which should also work with Greasemonkey. It gets rid of the left filters too but you can easily customise the code (just take out a couple chunks, its well commented) if you don't want to get rid of it all.

Thanks, that definiately appears to fix the problem. I updated my blog post to suggest this script over the other one now.
