I love Google. I really do. It’s probably a bit unhealthy, but it’s true.
At any rate, I was pretty happy when Google added tasks in Gmail and even more happy when they recently added the feature to their Calendar. But there are two pieces of the puzzle still missing. Hopefully it is something that they have plans to address soon.
So here are the pieces missing.
Recognizing Today, Tomorrow and Days of Week
First, when I add a new task such as “Do laundry tomorrow,” Google should recognize “tomorrow” and add the date accordingly. I’ve tried different methods of doing this like “tomorrow: Laundry” or “tomorrow laundry” and also the aforementioned example. None of those options seem to work. Gmail seems to have the capability of recognizing dates, times and words such as “lunch tomorrow” and ask to add it to my calendar, so I think the actual calendar and task list should have the same capability. So words like “today,” “tomorrow” and the days of the week should be recognized.
Now if I put in “5/30 Do Laundry,” Google will recognize that in my tasks or calendar and put it down for May 30, which is a step in the right direction, it just needs to be completed.
Syncing Tasks to Blackberry Calendar
When you use the Task feature in Google Calendar, it automatically creates a “Task” calendar for you. I was super excited when I saw this and immediately went to my Blackberry to include that calendar in my sync. However, the Task calendar doesn’t show up in Google Sync on my Blackberry.
This would be an amazing addition and get rid of the need for a paid subscription to Remember the Milk, which I don’t use because it is paid.
I’m sure there are a lot of other features that could be added to talks like reoccurring tasks, etc… but these are the two biggest things that Google needs to get to work on ASAP!
Don’t worry Google, I still heart you.
