More Baseball

So the Red Sox got sweeped by the White Sox. I’m a little disappointed, but I’m okay with that. I could cheer for the White Sox. Hey, they haven’t won a World Series in 88 years. At any rate, I’ll cheer for whoever will beat the Yankees, either the Angels of White Sox.

I’m definately going to be cheering for the AL team this year (again, a rare thing), unless of course the Yankees win the penant.

Peanuts and Cracker Jacks

Well, it’s that time once again. There is a chill in the air, the leaves are starting to change colors (everywhere but here), and pumkins are being sold in masses. Yes, it’s fall, but more importantly, it’s playoff time in Major League Baseball! This is the 2nd most exciting time of the year for me, right behind March Madness. Of course, if you were observant, you would have known what this blog entry was about by the title.

I am a little disappointed over a few things this season though.

1. It slipped up on me unexpectedly!
2. The SF Giants didn’t make the playoffs.
3. The NY Yankees did make the playoffs (for the 8th straight season…grrr).

So here is where we stand.

NL (National League for all you non-baseball people):
East Division Champs: Atlanta Braves (congrats Crystal)
Central Division Champs: St. Louis Cardinals
West Division Champ: San Diego Padres (Hey, at least it wasn’t the Dodgers)
Wild Card Champ: Houston Astros

AL (American League):
East Division Champs: New York Yankees
Central Division Champs: Chicago White Sox
West Division Champ: Los Angeles Angels (Okay, who liked it better when they were Anaheim Angels? Again, at least it’s not the Oakland A’s)
Wild Card Champ: Boston Red Sox (2004 World Series Champs)

Okay, so here is what I’m hoping.

First round AL:

Red Sox vs. White Sox (hope they don’t do their laundry together and get some Pink Sox…heh) = Red Sox

Yankees vs. Angels = Angels (come on, I always got to pick good over evil)

First Round NL:

Astros vs. Braves = Braves (lesser of the 2 evils I guess, although I give Houston props for stealing Clemmons from the Yanks)

Cardinals vs. Padres = Padres. No reason, except I never liked the Cardinals.

For the first time in a long time, I actually prefer the AL teams over the NL teams. I used to always be a NL person, and still am. In fact, the only 2 AL teams I can say I actually like are the Red Sox and the Angels. I decided this a few years ago when I realized I needed at least 1 AL team to cheer for in case a NL team I hated was in the World Series. I’m still bitter over the Angels beating the Giants a few years ago in the World Series, but I’d be more bitter if it was someone like say, the Yankees.

Overall, I’d like to see a Red Sox and Padre World Series this year. I think the Red Sox deserves our love, even though they won last year. But hey, nothing wrong with back-to-back championships, especially after the drought they had.
